๐Ÿ๐ŸWelcome๐Ÿ๐Ÿ

Ongar Honey was founded in 2022 when my son and I decided to follow our dream of keeping bees.  We were kindly given a hive of bees by a local bee keeper and it is from there the dream developed into a reality.

I enrolled onto a beekeeping course in Epping Forest that year and the 1 hive in the back of our garden based in Longfields. So far the hives have multipled into 4 beehives, due to space the bees have now moved to farmland where they can enjoy the local countryside

.

The 100% pure, minimally filtered, unpasteurised (raw) Ongar honey that we produce is sweet running and has resemblance to the colour champagne .

Honey produced in Ongar, Essex, is renowned for its exceptional quality, purity, and connection to the town’s rich agricultural landscape.

Ongar’s honey is a natural product derived from local beekeeping, where bees forage on the abundant flora of the surrounding countryside, creating a unique and delicious honey with distinct flavors that reflect the region’s natural environment.

๐Ÿ Quality and Purity

Ongar honey is 100% Pure and minimally filtered, preserving its natural enzymes, nutrients, and beneficial properties. This approach not only enhances the flavor but also ensures that Ongar honey retains all the health benefits associated with raw honey, such as antioxidants, antibacterial properties, and immune-boosting qualities.

๐Ÿ Unique Flavor Profile

The flavor of Ongar honey varies depending on the time of year and the specific flowers the bees have foraged from. The region is known for its diverse plant life, including wildflowers (borage and bramble), fruit trees, and crops like rapeseed. This gives the honey a rich and multi-layered taste that changes with the seasons. Spring honey from the rapeseed has deeper, more robust flavors, while summer and autumn honeys tend to be lighter, runnier with more sweeter flavors.

The diverse ecosystems of Ongar provide bees with a wide range of nectars, which contributes to the complex, artisanal quality of the honey produced in the area. Many consumers appreciate this unique taste, which often carries subtle floral undertones that are difficult to find in mass-produced honey.

๐Ÿ Sustainability and Local Impact

The bees @ongarhoney helps maintain the bee populations that are essential for pollinating plants and crops in the area. This not only contributes to biodiversity but also supports local agriculture, making honey production an integral part of the local economy and environment.

Ongar honey only uses red cedar hives to house their bees which gives them a more natural habitat.

When the honey is harvested, no electricity is used, the honey is extracted via a hand cranked centrifuge and filtered through two screens.

๐Ÿ Health Benefits

As with other raw honeys, Ongar honey offers numerous health benefits. It contains antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that can support the immune system, promote digestive health, and offer anti-inflammatory properties. The natural enzymes present in raw honey can also help soothe sore throats and coughs, making it a popular natural remedy in the local community.

๐Ÿ Local Pride and Tradition

Ongar honey is a point of pride for the town, often celebrated for its connection to local heritage and the environment. We ensure that each jar of honey reflects the natural beauty and richness of the Essex countryside.

๐Ÿ Hayfever

Local honey like that produced in Ongar is sometimes touted as a remedy for seasonal allergies. The idea is that consuming small amounts of local pollen through honey can help build immunity to local allergens, though scientific evidence on this is mixed.
